Full of flavour and very appetising indeed, this is the second special release from the only Northern Highlands distillery to retain its own maltings. Matured in a mixture of American and European Oak casks, there are only 3600 numbered bottles worldwide. Often described as “perilously drinkable”, it has only been available as a single malt in the last ten years and it is presented in a unique, hand etched Glen Ord decanter. Glen Ord is fresh, lively with well balanced flavours of honey and lemon juice, some acidity and dry spices. The finish is medium lenghth crisp, smoky and dry. Tremendous depth of flavour and balance, prompting Jim Murray to award this 95 points in his Whisky Bible.

Laphroaig 15 YO

The distillers describe this whisky as “Mildly smoky, with sweet, warm undertones — and just a hint of the sea.” Always bottled in limited quantities and replaced by the 18 year old in March 2009. Faintly salty. Laphroaig 15yo is a smoother and more elegant elder sibling to the robust 10 year-old.

Laphroaig 25 YO, Cask Strength

This is a new cask-strength bottling of Laphroaig 25yo. The whisky is a very different beast to the old 25yo. It has a rich and smouldering taste, with a big coal hit and a lingering seaweed character. Lovely stuff

Old Malt Cask Laphroaig 18 Years

The barrels for these bottles are personally choosen by the owner Fred and Stewart Laing. They where from the start made for fillings for their blended whiskies King of Scots, John Payer Special and McGibbon Golf.

The Laing brothers tries bound to the traditional ways of whiskies which means “no colouring — no chill filtration — no nonsense”.

The Old Malt Cask series is bottled at the “The Golden Strength” which is 50%.

Nose
Sappy tannins, crystallised ginger, and a fruit cake. A lint medical note and some smoke. Water brings up some new sawn oak, a raisiny sweetness and more spice.
Palate
A big, sappy, woody palate with barley sugars, smoke and ginger wine.
Finish
Tannic and smoky.
Comment
Intensely flavoured, but while it shouted very loud I didn’t necessarily enjoy everything it had to say.

Edradour 10 Years Single Malt

A tiny distillery in Perthshire is home to one of Scotland’s most endearingly different malts. Delicious honey notes complimented by an oily mouthfeel and a really stylish finish.
