A gold medal-winner at the International Wine & Spirits Competition, this unique concoction is a 100% Single Grain Irish whiskey, with no malt content at all.

Sweet, appetising and organic nose. Sweet with vanilla, dried banana chips, and coconut oil. Bourbon-y sweetness that gets the mouth wet in anticipation. Organic like fresh corn, green tomatoes, chlorophyll.

Mmm, buttery and fruity. Toasty. Caramel. Almonds with a twist of watery lemonade. Honeyed finish with a tinge of those organic notes found on the nose.

Summary:

Superficial stuff first, I like the bottle design (like the Arran Anniversary shape) and the cork is fat and tight giving a nice loud sssquuueeepft when you open it. This is a light, fresh, and invigorating whisky that is perfect for a summer day. Very bourbon-y without any of the harder tannins but might be a bit sweet and cloying for some people or even for some moods. Could do well in a cocktail in place of bourbon, or even rum. Yet more evidence that great things can come from the world of grain whisk(e)y.

Aberlour A’bunadh

A’bunadh (a-boon-akh) means “origin” in gaelic. The whisky is created the same way as in the 18th century with selected Oloroso sherry casks. The are non-chill filtered and there is not adjustment with water so every batch have different volume strength.

Lagavulin 16 Years

Lagavulin takes its water from the Solum Lochs, contributing some of the whisky’s peatiness. Malt peated with 35ppm of phenolic flavour compounds passes this flavour into the spirit. The malt is ground, washed several times with hot water which is then fermented producing wash. The spirit was produced through 2 distillations in the distillery’s 4 medium sized fat stills. The whisky is mellowed and filled out by ageing in both Bourbon and Sherry casks.

One of the most selling and popular bottle for Macallan. The whisky is blended from more than 50 different Macallan casks, most are Spanish sherry casks fist fills. Some of the casks are older than 12 years.

Strikingly clean flavours. Salt and malt in the nose. Clear Highland malt character with subtle peatiness. Aromatic. Delicately spicy. Unshakeable grass– and grain-type vegetative associations: cut grass, wheat, fields of grain. Refreshing.

A good introduction to the delights of single malt whisky — elegant, smooth and medium-bodied with a light, fruity palate and a whiff of heather on the finish. Part of Diageo’s Classic Malt range.
