The Rare Malts are a now-discontinued series of cask-strength releases designed by Diageo to showcase some of the hidden treasures in their portfolio. This is a classic Clynelish originally released in 1997, so stocks are now understandably very low.

According to some this peace is really worth every penny.

Colour: Bright, oily rape oil

Nose: This one comes with a smooth nose of caramel. Does not have that roundness. A faint tone of alcohol (which is good).

Taste: Lovely smooth and silky. Lots of fruits and a dry finish. Hints of vanilla and burnt toffee.

Context and summary: I had this on the balcony in a sunny summer evening. I tasted the dram after some tea and biscuit. I believe that this Clynelish is quite mild & soft. I love the sweetness and the dry grassy finish. It’s somewhat oily and and the taste sites for a few minutes. As I written before, this is one of my favourites. This time though I was really looking for something with a more complexity and charisma. Anyway, still lovely and great for great moments. I did not taste the dram with water at this time.

I link to TWE but I see that it’s out of stock there. Anyone else know where you can get a Clynelish 1974 / 23 YO?

Have you tasted the whisky? What do do think about it?
