Auchentoshan Distillery

Billed as “the world’s No. 1 best selling lowland single malt,” Auchentoshan is distilled by Morrison Bowmore Distillers, Limited and is available in Select, 10 year, and 21 year varieties.

History

Auchentoshan is one of the few remaining Lowland Malt whisky distilleries in Scotland. Established in 1823 the distillery lies to the North-West of Glasgow on the outskirts of Clydebank.

Unusually for a Scottish distillery, Auchentoshan practices triple distillation. Generally the final stage of Scotch whisky production involves distilling the fermented mash in two copper stills. In Auchentoshan, a third still gives a final spirit strength of 81% ABV (162 proof). This triple distillation, complemented by unpeated malt, gives Auchentoshan a more delicate flavour than many Scotch Whiskies. Maturation is in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry butts.
